Kerdau: Uncle-nephew clash likely in state assembly?

TEMERLOH: If Barisan Nasional candidate Syed Ibrahim Syed Ahmad wins the Kerdau by-election Sunday, the Pahang legislative assembly will have two relatives at political odds with each other.

But there will be no clash, Syed Ibrahim insisted.

He said that he was on good terms with his distant uncle, PAS assemblyman for Kuala Semantan Syed Hamid Syed Mohamed, although they differed in their political outlook.

"I never want to quarrel, much less with my own uncle. I only contest to represent the people, to debate issues affecting them," Syed Ibrahim said.

Syed Ibrahim's grandfather is a cousin of Syed Hamid's mother.

Syed Hamid said that his family was "open" about politics. "I even have close relatives who are strong DAP supporters," he added.

"There is no problem in our relationship. He (Syed Ibrahim)has his cause, and I have mine. He is my nephew now and in the hereafter," he said.

However, Syed Hamid, who is Pahang PAS deputy commissioner, said he wants his party's candidate, Hassanuddin Salim, to win. http://bit.ly/gDLdlq
