LABIS, Saturday 29 January 2011 (Bernama) -- Tenang voters have been urged to come out early to vote in the by-election in the state constituency tomorrow to avoid wet weather in the afternoon.
Election Commission (EC) chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof said the Meteorology Department's weather forecast for Tenang tomorrow was that the skies would be overcast in the morning while heavy rain could be expected in the afternoon.
"We want voters to come out early...do not delay," he told reporters after holding a briefing session for election staffers at the Labis multi-purpose hall here today.
On possible floods, he said all 12 polling centres were safe from floods as they were located on high ground.
His only worry he said was the polling centre located at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sawah Baru as accessibility might be affected in the event of floods.
"However, voters need not worry as we have made contingency plans whereby the cooperation of the Civil Defence Department, Fire and Rescue Department and police will be enlisted to ferry voters to the centre (in the event floods make the centre inaccessible," he said.
The polling centres will open at 8am and close at 5pm while vote counting is expected to be completed by 6pm.
All the ballot boxes are expected to reach the tallying centre at the hall by 6.45pm and the official result is expected to be announced at 8pm.
The by-election is a straight fight between the Barisan Nasional's Mohd Azahar Ibrahim, 39 and Normala Sudirman, 38, of PAS.
