The Future of Democracy in the Islamic World

CNN International interview with Anwar Ibrahim on Egypt and Democracy in the Muslim world
Popular uprisings in the Muslim world—Iran's now-dormant Green Movement, Tunisia's Jasmine Revolution, and the still unfolding popular revolution in Egypt—and loud clamorings for change in Jordan, Syria, Yemen, and elsewhere, highlight a common thread of societies that seek to overturn decades of autocratic rule while securing a greater political voice in the domestic and foreign policies of their nations. This freedom agenda, however, has not been readily embraced by the U.S. and other Western powers, who remain concerned about their loss of influence.

His Excellency Anwar Ibrahim, former Deputy Prime Minister and noted democracy activist, will present a broad perspective on how to understand democratization trends in the Muslim world and what the proper role of U.S. foreign policy should be.
A wine and cheese reception will follow the event.
